Is it a common practice to place high voltage lines on top of catenary pylons?
Those powerlines on the photo seem to be 123 and 245 kV or near that judging by the number of insulation units in strings. It's a rather strange sight for me as in Russia such HV lines are never placed on caternary pylons, furthermore powerline construction regulations recommend angles as close to 90 degrees as possible for HV powerline-caternary crossings to avoid harmful interferences.

The E60 locomotives were actually retired a long time ago, and the pictures I posted are from 1976 - 1980. The catenary is still like this, even though they re-wired the Northeast Corridor (Boston - Washington, and the only electrified mainline in the US) in 1980 from 11 Kw. The line voltage is now 25 kW throughout the corridor.
