Project No 2011-LV-93133-S „Preliminary Design of Latvian Railway Network Electrification”.
The objective of the Project is to obtain technical specification for the Design and Build tender of the Global project. Reaching this objective will encompass the fallowing tasks:
Reviewing the feasibility study and choosing between 1x25 or 2x25 kV technical solution,
Performing technical sketch design, which among other things will include EMC analysis, sketch designs for electric sub-stations, traction lines and stations, roll-out plans,
Respective environmental impact assessment,
Elaborating on investment plan.

This project is the first phase of the railway network electrification on the East-West rail corridor, Rail Baltica route and modernization of the existing electrified lines with 25 kV AC. When the project is completed, the preliminary design of railway network electrification will serve as the basis for preparing the application for EU funding and the Tender Dossier of the railway network electrification works.
The Latvian railway network electrification provides several economic benefits to Latvian public. It significantly reduces the environmental pollution caused by diesel emissions, reduces the noise level of train traffic and increases competitiveness of Latvian rail transit industry.
