Russian freight trains

I hope that someone can give me an description what kind of freight trains there are in Russia. Maybe it's a bit easier if I compare with the kinds of freight trains here in the Netherlands, because that's easier for me and I hope also for you. You can see here:

-Coal and ore trains, these trains only consists of hoppers, mainly around 40 cars.
-Intermodal trains, these trains only consists of special flat cars for intermodal containers, around 30-40 cars.
-Mixed freight trains, freight trains with all kind of freightcars, around 30-40 cars.
-Lime trains, special hoppers, the trains are rarely longer than 20 cars
-Steel trains, special cars, around 20 cars.
-Chemical trains, only tank cars, 15-20 cars.
-Auto trains, bi-level autoracks, 20-40 cars.
-Grain trains, trains with special closed hoppers, 20-25 cars.

I also want to know which locomotives are used for freight trains.

All the types you spoke are used in Russia. But there are two main difrrerences:
1) Freight trains in Russia are often mixed with different kinds of traincars.
2) Our freight trains are significally longer and have much weight, consists varies from 40 to 100+ wagons and weight varies from 2000t to 6000t (or to 8000t in some regions). Also sometimes "doubled" trains are formed, which consists of two normal freight trains with their locos coupled together. They can reach 12000t weight.
I also want to know which locomotives are used for freight trains.
Main freight loco series are (from the first models from 1920s): Ss, VL19, VL22, VL8, VL23, VL10, VL11, OR(N60), VL60, VL80*, VL85, VL65, TE1, TE2, TE3, 2TE10*, 2TE116. The modern freight locos are: 2ES4K, 2(3)ES5K, ES6K, 2TE70, 2TE25K, GT1.

Thank you very much for your detailed answer. But are there also trains with only coal cars, intermodal cars, hoppers or autoracks, like here? The trains I spoke are the most common trains, if I say everything I have already seen, I guess the server is overloaded:rofl: And which locomotives of the kinds you said are in use at the moment?

Barmaley 03.07.2009 21:14

Freight locos in use current -

Many thanks for your answers. Is there somewhere a 2ES4K, 2(3)ES5K, ES6K, 2TE70, 2TE25K or GT1 for download in MSTS? My bad Russian and because I don't know so many Russian MSTS sites makes it very hard to search them.

Railion 1600 17.07.2009 21:08

I've also searched at google, but I've nothing found:(

Are the single M62-units also in use now? Or are they only used for passenger trains or so?

Analytic 18.07.2009 06:49

I saw single M62 delivering small consists of coal hoppers from quarry or mine to station.
But as far as I know, they aren't used on mainline.

Excuse me mister, but have you even realised what forum you registered in? Airsoft/Strikeball is not our speciality, unless it is used to deter hooligans from trains by the locomotive brigade. Or something. Check the forum's theme and try again please. :)
